Sámi duodji is a centuries old Sámi handicraft. It is timeless and functional, with deep roots in the Sámi culture. Duodji includes functional handicrafts and artistic handicrafts. Sámi costumes represent local identity and provide various information about the wearer.
The Sámi costume comprises many small details, such as shoes, a belt, a hat, scarf and jewellery, and as is the case with the costume itself, there are differences in the way in which different parts of the costume are used and ways of dressing which vary by area and even within an area. The Sámi costume is part of Sámi duodji, i.e. traditional handicrafts.
